Frequently Asked Questions What if the electricity goes out?
Our systems include a heavy duty rechargeable battery back-up. The
system's battery back-up will take over. Once power is restored, the
battery will recharge. Eventually the battery needs to replaced. We
recommend every two years.
What is the police response time?
Upon alarm, the system will contact the central station within 30-60
seconds. The central station operator will follow the instructions on
your account. Police or fire will be notified after verifying the alarm.
The response time from the authorities can vary depending upon your
location and dispatch priorities.
Can I get a discount on my homeowner's insurance by installing a
security system?
Yes. Your new home security system may save you up to 20% on your
homeowners' insurance. Ask your insurance agent for details.
How many hours does it take to install a system?
A standard installation takes 5-6 hours. Some homes and larger security
systems may take a few additional hours.
What if my phone line is cut?
Harford Alarm offers "wireless" options for monitoring which are best
used with the telephone line to form 2 layers of protection. If your
telephone line is cut the signal from your alarm will be carried by
either a radio signal or a cellular signal to the central station.
How quickly can I schedule a date to have my system installed?
We can often install a home security system with one or two days notice,
subject to availability.
Who will install my security system?
Installers with at least 5 years experience. These individuals are fully
trained.
What type of warranty do you provide?
We warrant the alarm equipment for life as long as you are monitored by
us.
I have smoke alarms already installed in my house. Should I add
monitored fire protection?
Fire can be devastating to any home or business. In addition to the
immediate life threatening danger, it can cause irreplaceable damage to
your property and possessions. Non-monitored smoke alarms only provide
audible notification of a fire – relying on someone else to alert the
fire department of the emergency! When a fire condition is detected,
monitored smoke/fire detectors send an alarm signal to our 24-Hour
Monitoring Center. Once the signal is received, our professionally
trained staff can quickly dispatch the local fire department to your
business or residence, minimizing the potential threat.
If I install a security system, does it require a separate phone
line?
No, a separate phone line is not necessary. However, the system will
seize your phone line for a few seconds when sending an emergency alarm
signal to our 24-Hour Monitoring Center.
I am not happy with the system I currently have through another
company. Can I switch over to Harford Alarm?
Yes, however, if you have an existing monitoring agreement with another
company, you must wait until it expires. Once you are free from your
contracted obligation, feel free to contact us. We will send a qualified
Sales Representative to your home to evaluate your system. Our
representatives will determine your security needs, make
recommendations, and discuss the necessary steps required to bring you
on board as a valued customer.
